Donald N. Serafano, M.D.

Donald N. Serafano, M.D. was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He was awarded a four year academic scholarship to Villanova University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology & Chemistry. He was awarded a second academic scholarship this time to Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. After completing his studies Dr. Serafano served as a Captain and General Medical Officer of the United States Air Force. He received an honorable discharge before going on to complete both his general internship and his fellowship residency in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Dr. Serafano moved to Long Beach, California for additional training in corneal surgery and intraocular lens implants. He has been practicing general ophthalmology with a special interest in cataracts, lens implants, refractive surgery and glaucoma since 1978. He is on the advisory board for the development of phacoemulsification (a method of small incision cataract removal), foldable lens implants and no stitch cataract surgery. Dr. Serafano has given many scientific presentations and performed live surgery at symposiums all over the world.

He is currently an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Southern California. Dr. Serafano's numerous awards include being listed as an Honored Professional in both the American Directory of Who's Who in Executives and Business and the National Register's Who's Who in Executives and Professionals 2000 Edition. Dr. Serafano has also been selected by his peers to be included in Best Doctors in America, and Los Angeles Magazine's "The Essential Guide to Los Angeles' Best Doctors". The American Academy of Ophthalmology recognized his achievements by giving him the Honor Award in 1996. He has served as President (1993-1994) of the Rotary Club of Long Beach, California.

Dr. Serafano is Board Certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has completed a fellowship in LASIK surgery and has been certified in the VISX Excimer Laser System since 1994. Dr. Serafano currently serves as Medical Director of ViewPoint Laser Center in Long Beach, California.

Anne M. Freeman, O.D.

Anne M. Freeman, O.D.

Dr. Anne Freeman was born and raised in Bellaire, Texas. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree with honors as a Biology major from the University of Texas at Austin and her Doctorate in Optometry from the University of Houston. She completed her externship with the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma before beginning practice in Dallas, Texas in 1986.

In 1989, Dr. Freeman moved to Anchorage, Alaska where she practiced primary eye care with an emphasis in contact lenses as part of a busy private group practice. She returned to the “Lower 48” in 1993. Since 1995, she has been practicing optometry in Long Beach and Los Alamitos.

In addition to providing complete eye exams, Dr. Freeman provides pre and post operative care for patients undergoing cataract surgery. She is experienced in the fitting of all types of contact lenses, including specialty lenses for patients with corneal diseases and for those who have undergone corneal surgery.

In 1996, she completed the International Board of Examiners exam in the Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease and is licensed to prescribe therapeutic pharmaceutical agents to treat eye diseases. She completed a mini-fellowship course in 1997 in LASIK; she provides pre and post operative care for patients undergoing laser vision correction for nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia. She is currently Director of Optometric Services for ViewPoint Laser Center in Los Alamitos.

Lawrence J. Geisse, M.D.

Dr. Geisse was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the eldest of 10 children. He was appointed to and attended the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, and was inducted into the exclusive Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Dr. Geisse then played Professional Soccer in St. Louis, Missouri, for one year before deciding to attend Medical School at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, where he was awarded membership into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He was awarded a Fellowship in Pathology during medical school and spent a year in research and intensive study on complex medical problems. He completed his Internship at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, before going to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, for his Ophthalmology Residency. During these years, Dr. Geisse authored and published a number of papers dealing with a diverse range of topics including tumors of the iris, early detection of cancers, personal space, and laser treatments for a variety of diseases and problems. He has spoken at a number of national and international meetings, and is a favorite local speaker on eye diseases and the prevention of eye diseases.

Dr. Geisse moved to Long Beach, California in 1984. He is currently on the staff of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, St. Mary’s Medical Center in Long Beach, and Los Alamitos Medical Center. He examines, diagnoses and treats patients for all eye diseases and problems. He performs all types of eye and eyelid surgery and he especially enjoys complicated cases.

Dr. Geisse was certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1984. He was certified on the VISX LASER/LASIK system in 1994.

Dr. Geisse stills plays soccer and entertains family members from all over the country. He enjoys bridge, chess, golf, skiing and most sports.

L. Wayne Freeman, M.D.

L. Wayne Freeman, M.D., has lived in Southern California all his life. He completed his undergraduate studies in Public Health at UCLA, receiving a B.S. degree in 1971. The highlight of his time at UCLA was being a starting guard on the undefeated freshman basketball team. He continued in Medical School at UCLA, obtaining his M.D. degree in 1975. After a general surgery internship at Harbor-UCLA in Torrance, he moved to Long Beach in 1976 to begin his Ophthalmology residency at UC Irvine. In 1979 he received his Eye Specialty Certification and went on to do a fellowship in cataract surgery and lens implants in Arizona with one of the world's leading eye surgeons. He became a certified Fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1980.

Dr. Freeman then began private practice and has been practicing general ophthalmology with special interests in cataract surgery and lens implants. He has been a teacher and a mentor for residents in training as well as other ophthalmologists. He has been on both the clinical teaching faculties at UC Irvine and the Long Beach VA Medical Center.

Dr. Freeman has been extremely active in working to maintain the highest quality medical care in the community. He has been chairman of numerous committees and departments at Los Alamitos Medical Center including Chairman of the Departments of Ophthalmology and Surgery and served as Chief of Staff in 2000-2001. He has been a member of the Governing Board of Los Alamitos Hospital for many years and became Governing Board Chairman in 2006, serving a two year term.

Dr. Freeman has another office in the Leisure World Health Care Center, serving residents there for more than 25 years. He lives in Long Beach with his wife Karen Braverman Freeman, a costume designer and artist, and has three children of whom he is so proud-Aaron, Jana and Samantha.

Dr. Freeman's hobbies include music - he plays classical and rag time piano on his restored 1926 Steinway player piano. He is also an avid golfer and has played most of the top 100 golf courses in America.

Arlene Dolorico, M.D.

Arlene Dolorico, M.D.

Arlene Dolorico, M.D. was born in Manhattan and was raised in the suburbs of New York City. A Columbia University graduate, she majored in music with a minor in pre-med studies. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated summa cum laude.

After graduation, she attended New York University School of Medicine, where she received her medical degree. Dr. Dolorico completed her internship in internal medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital, also in New York City. She then began her three year ophthalmology residency at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.

In 1998 she moved to Southern California to begin a fellowship in corneal and refractive surgery at the University of California, Irvine.

After completing her fellowship the following year, Dr. Dolorico began working for the Kaiser Permanente ophthalmology department in two locations, Bellflower and Orange County. In 2002 she joined the Leisure World Health Care Center in Seal Beach.

As an Assistant Clinical Professor at UC Irvine, Dr. Dolorico teaches ophthalmology residents at both the UCI Medical Center and the Long Beach Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She supervises the residents in the clinic and in the operating room. Helping the ophthalmology residents is a rewarding and fulfilling experience and a way for Dr. Dolorico to stay current with the latest advances in medical treatment and surgical techniques.

In 2002 she received her board certification in ophthalmology, and currently practices general ophthalmology with an emphasis on corneal disorders.

Dr. Dolorico lives in Long Beach with her husband Robin, a Los Alamitos businessman.
